The League of Women Voters of Montezuma County will host a program on getting prepared for fire season on Saturday, March 11 at 10:15a, presented by Matt Shethar, the Chief of Operations of the Cortez Fire Protection District.
Matt Shethar was raised in the Cortez area and graduated from SWOS in 2001. He continued his education at Washington State University and graduated with a degree in Natural Resources. He started his career in wildland fire in 2009 as a seasonal firefighter in Leavenworth, WA. He has worked for the USFS, BIA, BLM, and the Washington Department of Natural Resources. He resigned from the USFS as an Engine Captain and came to Cortez to take a position as Wildland Coordinator for Cortez Fire. He recently accepted a position as Chief of Administration for the Cortez Fire Protection District.
