1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Did you know that research has proven that the more a child is read to in their early years, the more likely he/she will become a good reader early on?
This program is open to any child 5 years old or younger.
The Dolores Public Library is happy to sponsor this program independent of outside funding.
Parents read any book to the child and keep track of all books read. The goal is to have your child hear as many books as possible before Kindergarten. You may read any book – library, yours, grandma’s – any book counts. Even if your child wants to hear the same book over and over, you may write it down over and over.
Each child should have his / her own notebook.
You will need to sign a photo permission form as we plan to take pictures of the children and post them on a bulletin board as they progress to the 1000 book mark.
After each 100 books are read, bring the log to the library for a sticker and the next pages for the log book. If your child reaches the 1000 book goal, we have pages to continue on toward 2000 books! So, keep reading.
This program will take the place of the Summer Reading Program log at the preschool age. We will continue to have Summer Reading Programs and activities, but you will use this log book.
Imagine how proud you’ll feel when your child can present their log book to his/her Kindergarten teacher in the future and show how many books have been read to them!
