The Friends of the Dolores Public Library District is a nonprofit 501c3 organization. All activities of the Friends are in accordance with Colorado Library Law (Colorado Revised Statutes 24-90-101, et seq.).
There are several types of membership, which are individual, family, patron, sponsor, corporate, or life. Members do not need to be residents of the Library District but must meet the criteria specified in the Friends’ By-Laws. The Friends present an annual progress and financial report to the Board of Trustees in October of each year.
The Friends provide financial support for various Library programs and activities including the Summer Reading Program, the Bedtime Story Time, After School Reading Programs, the Easter Egg Hunt, and toddler programs. The Friends also paid the election costs for the new building in 2002.
The Friends also provide funding for library furnishings, books and reference materials, display cases, the Children’s Garden, landscaping and plants, window coverings, LCD projector, TV, VCR/DVD player, storage containers, and the screen/projector for the meeting room. In 2008, the Friends provided the funds for the cabinets and the beautiful tiles on the floor and walls of the entrance and in the restrooms. The most recent purchases were the Children’s library station/desk, white oak bookcases, and an oak magazine display rack.
Steve Hill of Dolores generously donates his time to haul the aluminum cans to the recycle center when needed and recently purchased a trailer for this purpose.
